Hi guys, I just recently started getting a whining noise from my 2006 Super Air transmission . It is a PCM unit. The boat has only 540hrs on it. It whines from about 700 - 1200 rpm in FWD only. I have owned the boat since 2013 and it was dealer maintained prior to that. Since I have had the boat I have done the normal maintenance. The tranny was showing slightly low and I added about 3 ounces of PCM Power Plus SAE 50 but that did not stop the whine. I have not checked the engine/shaft alignment, Anybody out there have any ideas on how to get rid of this very annoying whine. The alignment process seems like it might be a pain judging from the owners manual description.

Have you changed the fluid in the transmission since you've owned the boat?

No, the manual says to not replace the fluid, "fluid should only be changed if evidence of contamination is present". The oil looks fine.

It's a PCM Power-Plus V-drive and once again according to the manual is designed to be "maintenance free".

I think now that I was confused about how the drivetrain in my boat is setup, I was under the impression that the PCM Power Plus was the transmission and v-drive together. I think now that actually I have two separate components, the transmission and the V-drive.......so Im thinking I need to do more research. Sitll have the whine. Does anyone have an idea on how the 2006 Super Air 210 is configured, I know I have the power plus v-drive, How about the transmission and fluid types etc.. etc. Would be great if someone on here with some technical knowledge on this setup could chime in. I have not changed the driveline fluids in the boat since I've owned it (2013) since I was under the impression that the powerplus did not need fluid changes which I believe is correct but what about the transmission. I admit I'm a little confused on this setup.

I would call PCM to get a maintenance manual. Doesn't seem intuitive to run same ATF forever.

However, my Tundra has synthetic ATF & is supposedly good for a very long time.

My z28 with a Tremec t-56 says the fluid never needs changed, it runs dextrin III. Sounds crazy to me. I'd go ahead and change the fluid and see if that makes a difference.
