I have a 1993 Ski Nautique that in March was running hot and very hot up to 200 degrees after slalom course runs with stops. Strainer checked and clean, changed water pump, new impeller, 143 degree thermostat is new and still running at 170 degrees maxes out at 180 degrees. Someone suggested corrosion in the cooling jacket to the engine block. Is this possible on a 23 year old boat that lives on a fresh water lake? If possible how to test and how to fix?

Appreciate your help.

Probably didn't need a new pump. Probably not corroded either.

Verify temperature. Get all new 1" hoses, they dry out and crack from the clamps.

I don't mind trying to put on new hoses, as that is pretty easy and considering the present hoses are from December 1992. Not sure how present hoses could be the problem as they don't leak, aren't swollen or showing any cracking. When there was no thermostat the engine ran at 120 degrees. Is your logic that the hoses are somehow obstructing the flow as the suggestion for the overheating?

+1 to what Pete said. I changed out all the hoses on my 1994 SN for just that reason. The HO 351 runs cooler than the other side of the pillow.

My 95 had an issue with the in line water strainer allowing air to pull into the system.
Make sure the strainer is sealing.   New gaskets are available.

You can remove the engine cover completely and set it outside the boat for more room.
