This should be a fairly easy question. I polish and wax my boat every season. I have used several products including, 3M Marine Cleaner wax, Mequires "Cleaner Wax", straight polishing compound (where necessary), and Mothers Carnuba wax. It seems that no matter what I use after leaving my boat in the water for a couple of days I get the brown lake skum line that runs right along the water line. The only way to get it out is to use a cleaner wax and buff (by hand) it out. Has anyone had any particular sucess with any product that will ease the removal of the lake scum?

50/50 mix of hydrogen peroxide and sno-bowl or lysol toilet bowl cleaner, or muriatic acid. Rinse thoroughly after either and you will have to wax again but much less scrubbing.

There is a product called "Zing" it's basically hyrdochloric acid.. You dilute with water in a bucket and use a broom handle with a scruber on the end of it.
It will take anything off.. including skin! but works great on the scum! |

I use(STARBRITE)hull cleaner.Best stuff ever!wipe on wipe off grasshopper.

I have used Starbrite and The Works toilet bowl cleaner and The Works works much better with a lot less scrubbing.
It has twice the acid concentration of other toilet bowl cleaners (per ingredients on the bottle) and is cheaper than the others. It is an acid however and is dangerous. Wet your scum first but use no soap!!!! Soap will neutralize the acid and stop it from working. With water applied spray on The Works right out of the bottle. It takes 1 full bottle per boat to coat the hull all the way around. The Works foams on contact with the scum and gives off smoke!!! Do not breath the smoke!!! |
