I just ran my '68 nautique last night for fifteen minutes, came back to my mooring to check the gland nut drip (it was fine, just a drip or three every minute) and realized that the coupling was very hot to the touch. The transmission was cool, the shaft was Ok, but the coupling was hot? Is this normal? I repacked the stuffing box last year with flax/teflon combo and all seems fine down there... with the exeption of this. Could it be an shaft alignment issue? Many Thanks!

you may have the coupling too tight try losening it a quarter of a turn.
