1985 351 ford 500 hours
Smokes and runs rough at idle, seems fine at higher speeds with no smoke.
Has newer carb which I rebuilt just to be sure.
Newer wires, rotor, points, cap and plugs.
Accelerates and runs fine at high speed
Really puzzled

Is the smoke black? If so, could be that the carb is flooding the engine while at idle...a relatively common problem. A new fuel filter and carb rebuild should fix the problem.

You know, I just reread the original post and he said already rebuilt carb, so I agree that the float setting is probably too high. My bad.

Well if David says float...it probably is. That is what I instantly thought as well, although I'm no expert.

Could be mismatched gaskets on the PV or drippy venturis from float/needle problem.

There is really nothing you can do to your air screws to make the boat blow smoke.
