Bare with me, just wanted to understand people’s thoughts about types of food you consider ok to eat on your boat. I know this was a topic at one of our New England CC reunions. Love my wife to pieces but she packed our kids and their friends Cheez Its to eat on the boat. Orange cheese impressions on my upholstery and crumbs on the carpet push my limits. Am I over reacting to take a stand to ban that type of snack on my boat? Grapes and almonds are just as nourishing and less risk. Anyway, ok to loosen up and cheese-up the boat or take a stand? I know this isn’t a Hill to die on, just curious. Ken

How about you pack the food next time?

I currently float 3 boats:
‘76 Ski Nautique (carpet and upholstery)
‘93 Ski Nautique (carpet and upholstery)
‘06 Carolina Skiff (all fiberglass and two $35 fishing chairs)

The first two boats are driven to lunch, hence all food problems and mess solved. The latter is game on! Snacks galore, the Magma grill slips in its spot. All the water toys come out, dogs, etc. Make a mess. Following morning bleach in a sprayer and 10 minutes later with pressure washer and good as new. Take a guess which two do a lot of sitting.

Agreed, was only a couple hour cruise before lunch this morning. I had no idea snacks were an option. Water and almonds next time out. Blows me away how much kids eat.

Helps to have all fiberglass. Easy clean up. Carpet and vinyl are tricky.

Your boat. Your rules. I respect that but I don’t have a problem with that particular snack. My kids love cheese-itz. My only food rules are no glass and nothing that stains worse than a quick wipe down can handle. Cheese-itz meet that criteria for me. Cheetos are way more destructive. I don’t allow those.

It's karma, Ken, Goes back to the old Boston boat show days when we all laughed at/accused you of crawling all around the Mastercrafts and Malibus, with your big gallon jug of Cheesy Poofs. The chickens have come home to roost.

OK, just kidding. Like others have said, your boat, your rules. Hope all is well.

Towels and easy to eat snacks

It’s always good to have a crumb snatcher on board just in case

I haven't had the cheez-its problem, but have brought pizza into the boat with my kids. I know about all the boat rules stuff, but if I get to go with my kids and tie up at the public dock, walk down to pick up a pizza, get back into the boat and have lunch on the water and swim after, I'll take that over worrying about sauce stains on the upholstery or carpet.

Clean boat = nice
Family fun on boat = priceless

That's me too ... easy to eat, non-messy snacks is all I will knowingly approve to board the boat with the passengers or crew. Having said that, I've had my share of stow-aways. A bag of BBQ chips, opened up at high speed while they are sitting on the back bench make an incredible mess. Cherry Koolaid has been known to make the list after an 'incident' and yes, the dreaded Cheetos. But worst yet?   A bubble-headed girlfriend (Son's) equipped with a blue sharpie. She thought she'd give Ethan a temporary tat ... which transfers to marine vinyl like the Sunday comics onto silly putty.   That was a real blast to deal with!

I just HATE crumbs in my boat. I"m OK with fruit -- apples, grapes, etc. If people want to eat, it's done outside the boat.

Sincerely,

Captain Stress.

Our rule has always been that you can only eat when on the swim platform or back of the boat., so stuff like cheetos are fine.

I don't allow cheese on board (natural or chemically simulated)
also, no fishing poles.

I have on occasion taken along a Snickers.
But, if I ever get the feeling like I really should take a cheese, I'd probably just take along a brick of Velveeta.   And there's two different sizes now, normal size and the 1/2 brick size.

Are cheese-its non-vacuumable? I never even thought about that one.

I've tried to chill out as much as possible with things. I didn't even allow beer on the boat the first summer I had it (I caught endless grief about that one). I guess it's a fine line between keeping everything perfect and enjoying yourself.

Yep, no beer for the '74.   Even though beer and cheese is a really good combo
There was way too much beer on the '66 Mustang.

You should be banned from CCFan for that post, it must violate some secret rule on the site.

What's on your boat, Milwaukee's Best only? I'm an IPA fan, and some of the micro brew IPA's we have in New England right now are amazing beers.

Ken, everything cleans up. If you want your wife and kids to enjoy going out on your boat, you got to lighten up, otherwise you may find yourself boating by yourself and that will lead to far less boating time.

Cheetos, coffee, bloody marys, Guiness, ice cream, popsicles, who cares as long as your wife and kids are happy.

Does this policy extend to guests?

Yes, but sometimes guests need to be vetted or only allowed in the special guest boat.
