Had my 1993 196 in a "gully washer" while on the lake last weekend, have it all dried out now but seem to have some soft spots in the flooring. I know they were all fiberglass in '93. Thoughts on this? Will i eventually have to replace all the floor/carpeting like I would if I had a wood floor?

Soft spots in fiberglass?? Hmmm... I'd say see if you can pull the carpet back in a covert spot where there's a soft spot and give it a visual check - don't think I've ever heard of 'porous' fiberglass. If you have some flex in the floor I would more be thinking that there may be a crack/ cracks in the floor. Hopefully someone with fiberglass expertise can chime in here and enlighten us all ...

I'm sure there are some "holes" in the old flooring that has allowed water under the flooring.
Which means that the flotation foam might be suspect? Thar was the reason for this thread. Hoping someone might have had the same experience.. |

Not to say I would wish any further maintenance issues on anyone. Our old boats will break just sitting in storage.

The soft spots were not there before? I have a 1993 boat and have some soft spots. I suspect it is wet / old / disintegrated foam underneath. I don't think it impacts anything in our boats (1993 and on) since there is no wood to rot. There are plenty of ways for water to get under the floor. There are screws drilled into the floor all over the place.
Wet foam adds weight, but I'd just keep skiing. |

Mine is a 93 SN....no wood under there..and don't have soft spots..my floor gets wet all the time, from skiers getting in and out, wake boarders, swimmers, and the occasional rain storm, when I don't get the cover on in time. my floor doesn't have any "soft spots"
