About a month out from this event so I thought I would try to bump this up -
There has been some talk about doing a pig roast for Saturday - this will be driven by what makes sense based upon the number of folks in attendance. I'm relatively new to the group and have not attended the Badin gathering, but it sounds like a whole lot of fun. I have some questions. My wife and I was thinking about bringing the family and was originally planning to get campsite at Lake Badin Campgrounds since i have a 2.5 and a 4.5 year old. But it sounds like Greg may have room for tents? I was shooting for Friday and Saturday night if all goes well. Another plan might be to make a daytrip out of it since I'm not far away (Chapel Hill, NC). Just wondering if you all think the event is family friendly enough. I would be bringing a 1985 SN 2001.

Michael, there are plenty of spots to pitch a tent and trees to string to do the ENO thing if you do that. I'd say it's family friendly for the most part. It doesn't get too crazy in the afternoon but once dinner is over and the shot ski comes out.....
Not too many kids there at all unless you're gonna include the 30+ year olds. Lots of dogs running round so hope your kids aren't afraid of dogs and there's quite a bit of adult beveraging. Lot's of boat time weather permitting and hanging out by the fire pit too. Not a lot of things for young kids to do so keep that in mind if you bring the family. Your kids will have more " Aunts & Uncles" than they'll realize or even comprehend.

Thanks Morfoot for the info. Kids are pretty happy cruising around in the boat and making new friends on land, hopefully swimming if the water doesn't get to cold. It would have to be pretty arctic for the 4.5 year old. She's pretty much no fear when it comes to water. We are laid back about drinking, noise, etc. Just wanted to make sure it wouldn't be a bummer for anyone or make people feel uncomfortable. They are use to dogs. The good thing is we could always see how night one goes..more related to them/us sleeping in a tent. Then stay longer if all goes well. That's the great thing about being so close.

Plenty of room to set up a tent etc. Kids that enjoy watersports, (and for clarity tubing does not fall into this the watersports category) hanging on the lake with old(er) folks are always welcome. We are happy to have your family come and join the fun but leave any of that baby blue chapel hill apparel in CH...........LOL. This house Backs the Pack and supports the Deac's. Looking forward to meeting you All, I was out pulling some friends skiing earlier today and the water was a cool 84.7 in the middle of the main channel. With temps in the 90's the next couple of days we can expect the water to be in the high 70's to low 80's for the event. |

So those who control the lake elevation have been more focused recently on power generation than recreational use. Given this the lake elevation is down ~2' from full pond and will like drop some more before the event. Not to fear we will have plenty of water to enjoy. http://cubecarolinas.com/lake-levels/ |

I can live with that and the 90+F temps into mid week followed by mid 70's and sunshine for the Badin Bayou Mini is almost perfect. Keep those water temps comfortable as long as you can.!
