I have a 99 ski nautique with the GT-40 engine. I just got it and now noticed that the rpm is running high rpm...1400...at idle when in nuetral. When in gear, the rpm drops to about 700 which I believe is normal.
Is there an easy way to lower the engine idle when in nuetral? Otherwise, what is recommended? Thanks |

Turn your idle set screw counter-clockwise to lower the rpm in neutral. It's located on the trottle body just below the throttle cable connection.

1400 rpms at idle is a good way to ruin the damper plate.

hey tim, good point but it also tears up that thing behind the damper also, it creates alot of pre-mature (i know you guys know that word) wear on the teeth of the clutch plates. it may also cause warpage eventually in the plates because they are grabbing at such a high idle and can not dissapate the heat quick enough, plus it may even lead to the reverse or reverse plates snapping in half
