that makes sense--my biggest dilemma is figuring out shaft length.. i found the formula was just hoping that someone else has tried this on a FN

Jack plates are made to raise or lower outboards primarily on bass boats. Motor brackets are normally used to put an small outboard motor on the back of a boat for trolling. In order to properly position a boat for fishing and to control the boat the electric motor needs to be on the front of the boat. Both ideas listed will be a waste of $$

If you do mount an electric on front it will "probably" require at least a 54" shaft.

Get one with remote lift. That way you don't have to leave the helm to switch modes.

Sorry to say your dealing with a boat that had very little interest when new, especially on a site that's used to pulling tubes around in circles

thank you , been owning this FN since 85... pretty much in perfect shape. i live in Louisiana and most of my friends switched to bayboats and speck fishing due to snapper regulations,
i still like to head out when i have another boat to come with me , but the rest of the time is fishing specks in the bays hence the reason for wanting a trolling motor |

If you’re putting trolling motor on the bow go with longest shaft possible.

it gonna be a bow mount--- from bow to water it about 33 inches so im figuring a 52 shaft should work 24v 80#

Hand control bow mount? Or an I-pilot? 80# is the minimum I would go with. If you’re doing hand control I strongly suggest stepping up to a 62” shaft. I have a low sided Carolina Skiff JV17 with a Minn Kota 54” 52# 12v (it’s possible it’s a 52”54#) and it’s the perfect length for a hand control and frankly a bit more power would be nice sometimes but for me not worth the extra battery. I also have had best luck with Minn Kota. I hadn’t replaced a Minn Kota but my last Skiff I went through at least 3 Motorguides. This is my last summer on my jv17 then I’m having a 19DLX built and will have at least a 60” 80# 24v on it. I-pilot would be nice but at $2400......
