I've tried to research this but cannot find much... and I've looked thru for leaks but can't find any...
While at Lake of the Ozarks for the past week - did lots of skiing/wakeboarding/tubing on our 85 Ski Nautique 2001 https://youtu.be/OG614CboaQY At one point, i experienced a slight slip... it happened a few times.. I checked tran fluid -it was a bit low.. Also, I should note that I've been experiencing red fluid (tran) in the transom with water... Anyhow, i added fluid... no more slips for the rest of week... However, I cannot find where it is leaking... This system is selfcontained, right??? So wouldn't I be able to see external leak.. supply lines seem to be good.. Any idea what I'm missing?? Looking to sell this and purchase a Nautique 200 or SANTE.. in the 18-28,000 range...but I don't want to pass on a problem.. Scott |

Scott,
When you say "transom", I assume you mean the bilge? Two spots you can check. If there's nothing at the trans itself, look forward at the bottom of the bell housing. If the front trans seal is leaking, that's were it will show. Then there's the trans cooler. It won't leak into the bilge but will leak out the exhaust. The only way to tell if it's leaking is to remove it and pressure test it. |

Thanks - i did mean in the bottom of the boat so it gets suck out thru the bilge...
when you say bell housing - where the flywheel is encased..I don't see much for drips there..but have tried to wipe off to see if it starts again... I have it out in the sun right now and took some pics.. it seems to be pretty clean - aka - can't see where it would be dripping/leaking.. mystery to me.. |

Slip a piece of cardboard under the engine and trans for a couple days to see where the fluid is coming from.
Yes, the bell housing is where the flywheel is. |

If you can’t see any leaks chances are it’s coming from your input shaft seal Of the trans which is inside the bell housing, either you have a bad seal or the input shaft is rusted enough and it can’t make a proper seal
