Hello CCfans!

New here and wanted to share my project. I Inherited this project from my brother who had the hull freshly gel coated and painted before finding out that the stringers likely needed to be replaced and losing interest.

We have started on restoring our late 80's Fish Nautique. We have pulled the engine and have started to probe into the stringer and have found a good amount of rot. Our plans for now is to continue to cut the deck, remove the rot, replace the stringers and sub flooring and and reusing the existing decking.

Look forward to sharing more of the progress and look forward to any advice I can learn from here. I have dove into a couple other threads for inspiration, including Jzarski's Thread

Beautiful hull to work with! You keeping it clean looking or is there any chance that the original fish Nautique graphics go back on. Will def be following. This will be a sweet boat!

Thanks! There is a chance but they are quite retro lol. We have some work ahead of us before we get to that stage anyway.

Below are some updated pictures of the cutting and gutting we have done so far.



Our next step is to cut, remove and gut out the front half. Does anyone have any suggestions for cut lines on the front portion? Below is how I think we are going to go about it. We want to be able to reuse our existing decking once we replace everything underneath it.

You shouldn't have to cut it.  You should be able to remove the entire deck from the hull in one piece.

I wanted those seats in my twin-engine Fish Nautique, so I found a donor hull and removed the front half of the deck and stuck it in my twin-engine hull.  The early Fish Nautiques did not have seats in the bow.

I wish mine had the front bow seats.  Your lay out in the back looks different than my 1978 Fish.

Update.

There hasn't been a lot to update on at least nothing more exciting then bags and bags of foam.

We have cleared out most of the foam and rot and are nearly ready for sanding and prep to start replacing our stringers, bulkheads and subflooring.

This is a rough idea of the layout we are looking at for the new stringers and bulkheads. We are leaning towards using marine grade plywood and glassing all individual pieces.



Should we consider going all composite instead of wood? What are the major pros/cons?

What would you guys recommend to use to fill in the voids with foam?

Anything that we may not be thinking of that we should do while the hull is stripped?

We look forward to any advice or tips as we start to take on the next steps of our project!

Regauding marine ply, keep in mind it doesn't have anymore rot resistance than regular ply. Many think that it's better for wet locations due to the  word "marine". It's a structural ply with tight control over voids in the center plys. Go composite.
