Does anyone know the correct Skylon boom for a 2004 216 Ski Nautique with a Tower.
I have been offered one on Facebook in the UK (I am there too) and just not sure which one will work for the boat? any help appreciated |

Not a skylon boom but rather a Barefoot International - best bet is to reach out to Lane Bowers at the Footers Edge

Like this one? https://www.nautiqueparts.com/wp-content/uploads/1970/01/216_2.png
If you want to go out passenger side, here is my favorite setup which I would put out in front of the rear tower leg. http://www.thefootersedge.com/product/barefoot-international-b200-deluxe-straight-boom-ultimate-setup-b200-b110-b107-b111/ If you want to know why I recommend this over the tower boom, I can be more specific or even make a video for the group if you need it. Email me at thefootersedge@gmail.com and I can send a quote with pics. Are you a barefooter or teaching kids? |

Lane
thanks for the email. I think I watched you compete in London at the East Lake Shopping Centre in the 80's? Would that be right? I think you were first person I watched doing back to front on one foot - totally amazing on the basis I can't even get up backwards !! Too old myself know but my kids are keen to learn - they are 15 and 17 at this stage. My boat is like that - its a 2004 version (looks older than this). The Barefoot International support service suggested the 201 version (contour) and I have a close friend who also use that one. I am trying to avoid a new one with taxes, delivery and import duties. There is a Skyline one that works (came off a similar boat) that is for sale and should be right sort of price. But the Barefoot International ones seem to be more recommended. I was keen to understand which one was best as I used to ski on a Mastercraft and the SKi Nautique to all new to me. Great to hear from you. Jeremy |

Wow! That was a long time ago. That was my first world barefoot championship representing the US Barefoot Team. VERY difficult conditions there. You guys are tough people to put up with the cold and wind so much :)
Yes. I ended up winning the jump event and I was the first person in the world to do all 4 toe-turns "feet-to-feet" instead of turning to your butt, and then standing up. That was a wonderful experience for me and I wish I had met you there. If you want, I have free articles and videos on how you can learn to barefoot forwards and backwards at super slow speeds and without falling that you can get simply by leaving your name and email at TheFootersEdge.com. You also get my free eBook, "Be the Best Barefooter On Your Lake." anywho...
I totally understand the cost, import, shipping etc... I deal with it every day. I totally understand the pain of raising a family, keeping a budget, and still prioritizing time on the water with your family. I have two adopted boys, Zane and Peyton, who are now 13 and 15 so I understand you well :) Having said that, Barefoot International and any other competitor for booms and equipment is like comparing Correct Craft and Bayliner... enough said. Despite the cost of our booms, they last a lifetime and we have had clients come back to us after using their boom for 30 years. You can put it in your kids wills, lol. I would also be happy to send you or anyone else on the Correct Craft Fans forum a free copy of my No Fall Barefooting DVD by DropBox if you just remind me by emailing me at thefootersedge@gmail.com The B201 is not the right boom for your boat. If you are going out the passenger side and in front of the rear tower leg, I recommend this setup http://www.thefootersedge.com/product/barefoot-international-b200-ultimate-setup/ The challenge on your boat is getting out of the chine spray so you can go slower and safer while learning. That is why you need the boom extension. I am not aware of another boom that is strong enough to handle the exta distance needed to get out of the chine spray. I recommend 2 18 inch boom extensions to get out of the chine spray that is extra challenging on ALL vdrive boats. I always tell people that if they disagree with me after they use it, I will buy the extra extension, but I have never had anyone take me up on it in 20 years. Everything I do is built around safety. By getting skiers further out of the chine spray, you can go slower speeds which is not only safer, but it is also more comfortable for beginners. If you have the skier in the chine spray, they most likely will let go because of the intense aggravation. The only other alternative is to drive fast enough to get the chine spray out of the way. From my experience, driving faster scares the skier and defeats the purpose. Let me know if that makes sense. The B110 Boom Extension gets skiers 18 inches further away from the chine spray and is what I would call mandatory for all mid engine direct drives. http://www.thefootersedge.com/product/b110-boom-extension/ https://www.thefootersedge.com/chine-spray/ You are too old to barefoot? Check out my client who I taught to barefoot at 70yrs old and he is now 87 and barefoots safely every year with me :) https://youtu.be/8L36o4oUw4Q Here’s a cool new video I did with my 13-year-old, Zane... https://youtu.be/QoP36MINepk 😎 Happy to answer more questions. No joke on the extensions. Every bend in the first bar takes away distance from the side of the boat. A straight boom naturally puts you furthest away. From what I could tell BI uses the same bar stock. V-drive booms with 2 hard bends spaced far away from each other WITH one extension is comparable to a straight boom.
Straight boom with chine spray, one extension. Double curve boom, one extension. Double curve boom with chine spray, two extensions. One other trick to getting out of the chine spray is to contour forward. This is obviously more conducive to setting up on the passenger side of the boat. |

The key for the different booms is to know where the pylon is, and for mid engine direct drives, where the windshield ends compared to the ski pylon.
We recommend angling the boom forward as well as the boom extension for almost every ski boat. A Vdrive boat with a rear pylon in front of the engine would most likely require two boom extensions as well as angling the boom forward. Here is an example of installation. Here is my b202 Boom installation video. https://vimeo.com/89153681 We do not recommend the boom extension with tower booms because of the increased torque it could potentially put on a weaker tower, but I have used them on my own personal boats because I teach all the time and must have the client free of the chine spray. You can use our B111 Kids handle on the very end of the boom for small kids and to get further out of the chine spray.
b111 For a lot of the newer and larger Vdrive boats, it is sad that Correct Craft is not accommodating the owner with better options for the boom. Many of these boats can only get free of the chine spray by using our Deluxe Gunnel Mount boom in front of the windshield. It is actually a much better option that the tower boom if they even have that option. http://www.thefootersedge.com/product/barefoot-international-b205-gunnel-mount-boom-ultimate-setup/ "Expect a Miracle!" That's ok. Those friggin' barges are only good for about 28 mph anyway, even with the 550.

It is possible, but most do not want to use the Gunnel Boom.
We are working on a new tower boom that would have the support arms, but mount at gunnel height. I am excited for that option to come out. "Expect a Miracle!"
