I have thought about it many times.  Getting in the left side box is a challenge, you have to use two hands.  I have not done anything about it yet though.

For those of you with '96 and older SN's with the two storage boxes on the dash...have any of you retrofitted the port-side box with a gas strut like we have on the cooler box?
