Hey everyone, so I just replaced the carb with a quick fuel 600, a née fuel pump and fuel filter/water separator. Boat starts every time in the driveway, but when I get it on the water it feel like the engine is maxed at 1500 rpms. Any ideas??

Also when in the driveway the port side exhaust seems to get much hotter than the other.. not sure if it’s because the pressure of the hose is not enough???

And final question. Promise:) the looking glass on the secondaries keeps filling up no matter how much I adjust the screw on the carb, anyone else have this issue?

Thank you in advance!

Joe

If you take care of your final question first, you may fix your first issue.

It sounds like maybe you have junk in the needle and seat assembly holding it open a little.

Is there fuel overflowing into the secondary throttle bores?

Does it idle smoothly? It shouldn't idle very good at all if your secondary float level is always too high and spilling over.

Keno,

I think it idles the best it has since I bought the boat, but I am sure it can be tuned better. I tried adjusting the secondary float this morning, thought I had it. But once I let it run for about 10min. They were full again.

I probably need to check the fuel pressure at some point?

Do you think the timing might be off? That is something I have no experience with if so..

I just don’t understand how it starts every time first try, Stays idling but when under load or in gear can’t get it above 1500 rpms.

Don’t know if that explains anything? Haha

Thank you so much

Joe

What engine do you have & is it protec or distributor?  Electronic Ignition? You may need to get a timing light & check spark timing/ advance.

And it's an 86 SN.

If it's idling good, you floats can't be too far off

How is the primary bowl float level, does it go up too?

Keno,

No the primary seems to stay about half on the looking glass, It seems like the carb sits with a slope towards the back. I don’t know if that is making the difference or not? But yeah it idles well, just doesn’t like anything above 1500 rpms. To clarify it seems to be fine it is not in gear. The problem occurs when it is in gear.

Check to verify that when you open the throttle the carb actually is opening to wide open.  New carb just installed maybe your linkage is not right.
