I got the bimini installed today and we took it out to ski beach and back to Orwood Resort for lunch today. Runs great, no leaks, steam, smoke or funny noises. A new sensation in boating, nothing's wrong!

You have a beautiful looking Nautique!

I just brought a Bimini for my boat a couple of weeks ago. Haven’t installed it yet since it’s still in the garage. I’m a little nervous drilling into the gelcoat but I’m sure it will be fine. Boat has been de-winterized last month since my garage is heated. Still staying cold in the 30’s – low 40’s in the mornings here. The plan is to get out on the water next week and if no hiccups, then I'll spend the afternoon installing it. Looking forward to this.

Thanks, it’s really pretty, lucky find!
I’ve learned a few things about drilling into gel coat the hard way. The worst thing is to break off a ss screw flush. The right sized bit vs screw is tricky. They’ll look almost the same size. Fiberglass is very hard and won’t work like wood.
If the screw won’t keep turning smoothly with a hand held screwdriver and then stop and bite when fully in, Stop and try a different combo, don’t force it.
I tossed the screws that came with to top, and used larger screws I had and two different sized bits, starter and finish.
Use a large bit by hand backwards to bevel the edges of the starter hole to prevent cracks after making the starter hole.
Make sure the top will lay flat clearing the windshield when installed.
Easy job if you follow my advise!

That looks like a very nice boat. Glad you had a great experience. Based on the names of locations you mention I assume you are in the Sacramento River Delta area.

Yes, Oakley,Ca.
We had a little heat wave, but now it’s windy and suppose to rain this weekend. We’re retired so we avoid weekends on the water, too many people that don’t know how to act like adults.

Retired myself about a year and a half ago. Right after retirement my sons high school would have every other week late start Tuesdays so teachers could have meetings. So in turning a stupid decision into a positive, my Son and his Girl friend and I would head to the lake first thing in the morning on those Tuesdays and ski once or twice put the boat back on the trailer and head to school. We would pull into the school parking lot boat in tow and drop off the kids by 9:20 for their first class.
