OK, this is for all you ski bums. I've been skiing a Jobe for 28 years--it's hard for me to give up familiar things. Anyway, I picked up an HO phantom, which nearly looks new, but was blank. I found some HO 98 Bindings on Ebay, not used but a couple of years old. The new bindings don't match the holes in the blank.
I was thinking of putting epoxy in the old hole and simply drilling new ones to match the 98's. Any other suggestions? It's almost 50 today, I may want to ski Chuck |

that's what I did w/my phantom. If you can get those inset screws that's way better than just screwing through the top of the ski. But it will still probably work. epoxy in old holes is a good idea. You're not going to believe the difference in that ski from an old Jobe. I went from an old (1990) HO extreme to the phantom and just freaked out.

The folks at Goode Skis say no more than 24 holes in a ski or the risk of it breaking is too great. Goode Skis are natorious for breaking. Check out this site for advice:
Goode Skis Binding Info There are some adhesives that may actually add a little strength when you fill the holes. Adhesives from US Composites So did you ski on the Jobe Edge? I used that ski from 1982 to 1988. It was awesome. The new Jobe MPD is supposed to be great too. |

Chuck, are you crazy. That Phantom was an $800 to a $1000 Ski. If I recall correctly, the 98 bindings are also more than a "couple" years old (I put a set on my former wife's ski back in 98) . I would think you could find a set of Venoms, or Animals fairly cost effectively. My $.02. BKH

BKH, I was thinking the same thing, it's not worth all that for those bindings.
So is the new MPD a Jobe or a Radar??? I've seen it labeled as both. |

I think Radar is the new name for Jobe.
Chuck, if you end up getting new bindings, also consider Wiley's. Many of the pros use them, and theyre very well constructed. Theyre also very reasonably priced. I believe you can get them with a baseplate that matches your ski. OTOH, I bought a used Wiley's front binding and mounted it to my dad's old Obrien G3. I just predrilled the new holes (no inserts) and filled the old ones with epoxy. The ski held up just fine this year. |

OK guys, continue to help me out. Like I said, I haven't bought a new ski in years. The jobe was the "professional"
I got the phantom for a steal, just $60, the guy was loaded with skis and wanted to get rid of them. Sounds like I need to ebay the 98's and look for animals or venoms or wileys? Chuck |

Radar Ski at Andy Mapple's Site.
Chuck...good deal on the phantom. I got mine for $100 and put venoms on it. I agree with above that Wiley's are good too. It's pretty fun to have a question like yours Chuck! |

I believe KD's hole pattern matches up with the new/wide HO style as well. Don't quote me on that though.

Chuck: Hang on to the Jobe. You might wanna get back on it. I liked my phantom when I first got it but now it almost seems like to much work to ski it.

John,
Definitely going to hang on to the Jobe--it's my old friend. I found some Wiley bindings for the phantom. Chuck |
