Note to self:
Add to winterization chores; Blow out pitot tubes to remove any water that got trapped in balancing tubes (chambers). Been meaning to post this for a while now. Neither of the speedometers worked this spring when we put the boat in. After digging around for a few hours, I found that the bottoms of the balance tubes had swollen and burst. Water must have been left in the tubes and frozen over the winter, thus expanding the brass past its flexible limit. The holes were in the sides of the tubes so repair was easy, but, getting them out and back in requires more flexibility than I plan on putting this old body through again. |
