I started to install my cam/head package today and I ran into a major problem with the ski pylon. I know most of you have stated you had no problems getting the ski pylon out but mine was a major PITA and it is still not out. The bottom bolt that goes thru the ski pole is frozen in there and will barely budge. I can't get a tool behind the back side to tap it. Any suggestions? My cam install is on hold. I really don't want to pull the motor because of the pylon.

Thanks!

Mine wasn't that badly corroeded as it was stuck from sand and debris in the cup and around bolt, good idea on clamp Eric.I washed and vaccumned and tapped till the bolt moved enuf to get flat bar behind head. Then I still had to rig a comealong above it to apply pressure and tap with mallet,

Good luck Munday

I built a little dam around the sucker with aluminumm tape and fulled up the dam with pb blaster for a couple days. That got the bolt off but the pylon still took two 250+lb guys with 40 inch pipe wrenchs to budge on my 83. Luckily I was not there to have watch that, I was impressed that they didnt twist and pull the cup out of the bottom of the boat. Good luck.

Idea number 2,   do you have a air compressor?
how about using an air hammer 15.00 bucks at walmart and grind a chisel to a point and air hammer it out

Is there enough room to get a Sawzall at the bolt?

Pete he probably has the nut off, i think he is trying to slide the bolt out in which it wont budge.

Eric you are correct in that the nut came off easy. When you push as hard as you can the bolt will just budge 1/4". I tried again briefly this morning with no luck with a swivel wrench. I have one more swivel extension that may reach and fit on the bolt. I can tell if I push much harder it is fixing to snap off. If that happens I can not push the bolt out the back because it will hit the fiberglass wall. Last option is to saw zaw the pole in half just above the bolt then cut the bolt half and remove it. My welder can re-weld the pole for $15. I should have done that earlier as this PITA pylon has consumed more time than the whole camshaft/head swap!!!

Thanks!

little extreme there, let it set for a day. grease up the corrosion get the cross pin/bolt out then pull it out. twise first then pull.

JR, sometimes the actual foreplay will consume more of your time then the actual act,
I thought of you yesterday whan one of the guys snapped a bolt off in an aluminum bell housing. vice grips wouldnt budge it so i clamped the broken bolt in the vice as hard as i could and started heating, it finally came out but i was frustrated
