I have an 89 Nautique and I am in the process of rebuilding the engine. The engine is out of the boat and I am having trouble separating the transmission from the engine. The transmission is a PMC 1.23 . Does the transmission separate from the engine with the bell housing or should the transmission be unbolted from the bell housing firsts?
Thanks George |

Hello Georges
If your engine is the same as mine you can separate the trans with the bell housing because if you need to separate the damper and the flywhell you need to deposit the bell housing. Dont forget to deposit the starter before with the two screws Good luck have a good rebuilding |

its easier to pull the trans away from the bellhousing, it is a piloted fit and is on the snug side, use a deadblow hammer if available, if not use a 2x4 and tap with a 2 lb hammer. there is 6 bolts holding it to the bellhousing. Once this is complete i highly recommend then removing the bellhousing and changind the damper, it is a wearable item and creates long term damage to the transmission. do some reading throughout these forums to get a better understanding of damper damage, mis-alignment damage and so on.
These forums teach you things that you cant learn in manuals and it is all based on experience from many different knowledgeable boat owners |
