I have a 1987 Martinique w/ Ford PCM 351 & Holley Carb. My family & I were out on PK last week & the boat was running fine on Saturday. Sunday went to start it up & the starter broke on me. I replaced it & at the same time replaced the spark plugs. Now the motor seems to crank fine but will not start. The carb seems to be flooding & shooting gas up out of the carb about 3-4". I converted from points to electronic ignition a couple of years ago. I have torn the carb apart & made sure the floats are working & no dirt in the jets. Same problem. Can anyone please help.

What kind of starter did you replace the old one with?I believe you have a reverse rotation engine, you just cant go to the auto parts place and replace it with an automitive type starter. This will not work, you have to have a reverse roattion starter. If this is the case,I hope u still have your old one, so u can take it and have it rebuilt.

Workky is right on. It sounds like you are cranking the engine backwards. Make sure you use a Marine reverse rotation starter. SKIDIM which has a link on this site should be able to get you a new or rebuilt one overnight for a reasonable price.

Thanks for the help & you are absolutely correct. I was not aware of Marine being reversed & apparently neither was the rebuild shop. I took the starter back this morning & their finding me another starter drive & armature. Mine were trashed. Thanks again Workky & Rick.
