Hi all. I need a pair of guide pads that fit an old, 1968, Mustang trailer. These are the tube type pads that slip onto the two vertical posts at the front of the trailer (not a very good design if you ask me). My eyeballs tell me that the OD of the guide poles are about 1 1/4".
Most of the guides I find at the supply houses are about 2" ID. I don't want them to blow off in the wind. Thanks!!! |

Jim I went to a Fire hose supply company and bought 20 feet of new hose from a roll end. I think it was 1.00 /ft. If you can't find it let me know what length you need I still have about 5ft. left.

Thank you for the nice offer but I think I need something very thick and cushy. When I wench my boat up, the front of the boat braces against the two vertical poles that need the pads. (I think they are called pads.) From what I can tell they are some kind of rubber foam tube. I've seen the tubes available and they all seem too large in inside diameter. My vertical guide tubes, on the front of the trailer, are 1 5/8" in outside diameter. It seems to me that the rubber tubes that slide down over these poles need to have an inside diameter close to 1 5/8" or slightly smaller. -jim

Jim,
I think that 2" hardwall hose is about 1.6" id, that would be slightly less than the 1.625" id you are wanting. Problem is finding the stuff. I am not speaking of automotive radiator hose. Several of the big diesel engines use this as water hoses. Might try a heavy equipment dealer like Cat or a farm tractor dealer. Oh yeah, putting it on will take a pipe wrench and a bottle of dish soap and a few words not meant for tender ears! You want something with a bit of cushion to it but not something that will crush and let the rub rails ride on the metal posts (bow stops). If you cannot find anything else, grab the good linen from the hall closet and wrap it around the posts. I am sure that the wife will understand the necessity of protecting the boat! |
