Has anyone used this?

Replacing the packing today? Have a bet with someone on regular flax wax vs this stuff. Not wanting to do dripless as of yet.

thanks in advance!

P.S. I read all of the old post and this was my favorite from Stang67

Dave,

I always used the old shi* not the new sh*t...I once bought some of the new s*it but had some of the old *hit laying around too.And because I could'nt find my glasses I don't know which shi* I used! However, I stuck the sh*t in there and it works well. Sorry I can't be of more help , but I can't see s*it with out my glasses

I know that when I as looking for advice on troubleshooting the shaft a lot people recommended that goretex. I guess is really good stuff and requires no drip or less drip, I can't remember s.... The drip thing was enough for me cause it only requires to stay moist. I haven't done it so I can't tell you how good it is.

I used the Gortex packing when I repacked the shaft. Excellent stuff, I don't know why you would even consider using the wax rope stuff over this. Well worth $10. I get almost no drip, and shaft stays nice and cool.

Be sure and get the right size, I don't think the one you linked to is the right size for the shaft.

This came up at a good time for me. Pete, I'm not disagreeing with you, but skidim has it the other way around. I was about to order some, so I'll wait for the dust to settle.

I have an '89 & repacked with 3/16 inch goretex. It fit well, apperaed to be the same as what came out. FYI, my rudder packing is 1/4 inch.

And oh... did I already mention that your '89 is my kind of boat?

That makes sense as my rudder port is larger. I'll get some of both then and make sure to wear my glasses so I don't get the sh*& mixed up!   LOL Shawn, I've been laughing about that old paragraph since you put it up!!!

Kristof - Looks like your boat is a brother to mine (or maybe sister - boats are always named after women??) Same color!

We really like ours, even though it has damage.   It will be like new when we are done with shaft project.

I hope to meet you some day - maybe Green Lake '09.
