Hey guys, My '98 steering went terribly stiff on me the other day, so it seems that I will have to get a new cable. Is there anyone on here that can the the Correct Craft cables at a discount? Also, is there some instructions to do this myself? I don't feel like paying the dealer 300.00 bucks to do something I could do at home in a hour. Let me know.

Thanks in Advance!

Get the cable at White Lake or your local dealer. My dealer was only $5.00 more than White Lake and had the cable in stock (+/- $179.00). Replacement is very easy.

Pull out from the helm after tieing a rope to the tiller end. once out, tie rope to new cable and pull tiller end back through from helm. Bingo you are done.

Cable Rack simply unbolts from helm. Remove bolt from Cable rod/tiller and remove large nut from torque tube (lareg nut is part of cable). Reverse to reinstall. Very easy.

the cable is stiff enough that you really don't need the pull rope just start pushing it through the tube in the hull and it will come out in the bilge.

yep, true enough. The rope just made it easier for my young son to pull, while I guided the cable through from under the dash.

Silly question here . Do you replace just the inner cable , or do you also replace the outside casing with the cable in it as one unit?
