-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just got back from the Seattle Boat Show. One of the engine dealers told me he has been talking to PCM and they have bought a bunch of Windsor blocks and will be making 351s again. |

That's great news. Never been much of a G. M. fan. The 351 is just about bullet proof. Not knocking the 5.7, but just feel the 351 is a great marine engine. Long live P.C.M.

Hi Folks!
Could anyone tell me the all differences between the Ford 351 Carb with 260HP and 285HP in a ski nautique 1993. I just sold my old 1993 with 285HP an a PCM 1.23:1 (max revs: 5200) transimission and bought a 1993 ski nautique with 15degree angled Ford 351 carb engine and a 1:1 (max revs: 4400) transmission. The 285HP with a 4blade 14x16 went like hell and was the fastest most powerful nautique here around. We mades tests with pedal to the metal against a 2001 ski nautique with a tuned phyton engine approx 400HP and pulled equal on acceleration. On topspeed there were only 1 or 2 miles diff. I WANT TO KNOW: CAN I TUNE MY 260HP engine to 285HP ? What does PRO BOSS mean? What does POWER PLUS mean? Does my new engine have GT40 heads? (the valve covers are red and look the same like on my good old engine) Please help me on this topics. thanx from South Germany javagif ______________________________________ skiing on the blue danube. easy to find on a globe. Pro Boss means that it has the GT40 heads and Pro Tec computer ign. GT40 heads are marked by 3 ribs on the front and back sides of the heads. Standard 260 hp heads have 2 ribs. Power Plus is the 1.23:1 reduction transmission. Strange that you say you have 1:1 trans. I had thought they stopped using that before 1990.

Thanx for the information Darrel!
I guess they installed a "on stock sell out" 1:1 transmission for export. (bastards!) Funny in the owners manual they speek of a PCM and of a Warner transmisstion. Warner is 1:1 and uses SAE20 engine oil for lub and all PCM using dexron II. Mine is a PCM using dexron ? _____________________________________ But back to may former question: HOW CAN I TUNE MY ENGINE TO 285HP? Does anyone have experince on using an EDELBROCK Intake which fits underneath the bonnet? |

Basicly the cams are different I believe. Now there are several things that you can do to increase the current perfomance of your engine which can equal or surpass the the 285hp rating.
replacing the intake is a good start the edlebrock performer, performer RPM, and the performer airgap rpm will all work I believe that for the airgap RPM it gets real close but there is a shorter flame arrestor available to gain the extra clearance if needed. I belive someone had a breakdown as to how much of a gain you would see by replacing the intake, heads, prop and so forth but this was for a little older 351W but should be basicly the same. |

First thing i would get is a new prop. Many that have made the change said a cnc'd ACME prop makes the boat run like you added 20 hp. You dont get your hands dirty or spend too much.
Lots of PCM trans run dextron or 20 wt. Just replace with what was previously in the trans when doing maintenance |

Allright!
There is a massive difference between 3 and 4 blades I noticed on my former boat. Installed is a original 13x13 3-blade. The reference list says on a 1:1 trans I should go for 13x13 4-blade (OJ list). To 79nautiques: I want just an extra portion of torque and view revs more. Guess I go for the Edelbrock Performer RPM. I am a sort of irretated. Why does my present engine allow only 4400 revs while the old 285HP with the same heads goes up to 5200? |

My 93 Pro Boss motor revs to 4800, there is a rev limiter that puts it in a limp mode when it approaches 4900-5000. In the past while testing props the limp mode has taken over on me. 5200 sounds high for a "stock" 285 hp.
Find a "prop shop" that will let you test a few props to find the best one for your application. |
