Hi,
I was looking at a 1999 196 SN for wakeboarding but was told to stay away as the hull design prevents ballast from working all that well. The explantion I got was that this hull is extremely bouyant and loading it up with sacs/lead etc doesn't do anything and you end up with a small wake. I gues I could do a test drive but I don't want to waste the sellers time if it is going to be unsuitable. Thanks Mark |

That boat has the TSC (Total Surface Control) hull. One of my ski partners bought one last summer, great wake for skiing. We have loaded it down with 2 and 3 sacs and the wake gets bigger but the shape is too roll-y for lift off. If you plan on doing much boarding i would pick another boat. 90-96 SN hull is much more an all-around boat. Newer Super sports and Air Nautiques w/ FCT if your budget allows are made to board. Good Luck but dont buy a TSC and expect boarding wakes.

Thanks for that,
I have heard 3 or 4 negatives and only 1 positive regarding this so I think the nays have it :-) I'm back looking at importing an 80's SN as they throw a good one. Only problem is my costs are rapidly blowing out :-( |

i would look for a 80's 2001 nautique or a early 90's i started out with a 90 sn with a tower a four blade prop and about 1600 pounds of ballast worked great but boat struggled. i talked with a friend who works for correct craft and he told me that they tested with the 90-96 nautique hull when they where first starting to build a wakeboard specific boat. i finally upgraded to a 2001 SAN and haven't been behind any boat that would match the wake it is huge expecially when you add extra ballast. good luck on your search!!!!!!!
