? on towers/poles

   Posted this over on Planetnautique, but thought I'd repeat it here since this site seems to have alot more members w/ older Nauti's. What do you think?:

Spent a week on a lake last year, where I was at a marina slip and didn't have a beach front to spread out all the ski junk (ski's, wakeboard, kneeboard, etc.). Also have the same problem just trailering to local lakes = No room in the '84'! 

Thought about updating to a 90's Sport Nautique (But the look on the wife's face wasn't pretty & Lord knows we'll never be in the ranks of you Air/Superair boys). 

Sooo.. Looking for opinions on adding a tower or pole. 

This would give me some rack space to get some junk off the floor. Would probably go with either the Monster Tower or the Flitepipe. 

Like the Monster Tower, but don't like the idea of drilling thru hull (and worry about reducing the value of a classic nautique).

Any comments/suggestions??

	Yep Nauti, I've noticed the same thing bout older nautiques hang out here! Kinda like that way. coo-do's Keith !! I've got an 88' and I tend to agree with you about installing a tower. I've got a skylon with just a two rack wakeboard rack and it helps alot. It can be used for skis bout they tend to boune alot in the rack if you incur alot of rough water. I have seen racks that install under the gunwhale(?) on either side to help free up some space. I've seen them on e-bay but never personally. The worst case scenario is if you have a towable then you pretty much screwed unless you have a PU to stow it in when not using or have a bud who owns a place on the lake that doesn't mind if you "borrow" their dock for storage. I'm happy with my skylon cause I like the classic look of a older 'tique plus it makes a great flagpole for the U.S.A. and UGA car flags that fly from it respectively.

	Nauti84: I really like the Monster rach design and I think it may enhance the selling price of your boat. If a potential Owner does not want the rack, then it is realitively easy to patch holes in fiberglass where you cannot even tell they were there. Ask me how I know!

	I have installed a Monster tower on my 81 Nautique and it only required four sets of four small holes to install. I would tend to agree with David in that it will probably enhance the selling price.

	I too think that a quality tower will actually increase the value and give you the extra storage for skis and boards. Its also gonna make a better pulling location for boarders,tricks and footers. 90-96 SN's are a great crossover hull for skiing and boarding plus more interior room without the big hurt on the wallet.

	i have a pylon and sklon board rack. ive been thinking of maybe a change.but if i get a tower it will be a fct. just because its a nautique and should have a nautique tower on it

	I understand your concern over changing the classic look of the boat. Many 'old timers' told me to preserve the look of my original nautique, and just as many 'new school' riders told me to go with the tower. In my case I decided that the boats function was more important than its historical accuracy. Afterall, the whole reason I bought the boat was to get out on the water and ski/ride/foot until my arms are ready to fall off, not to wash/wax/pamper in hopes of winning a classic boat contest (not that there is anything wrong w/ that!). Being a very poor grad student, I ended up installing a Monster tower. It is ROCK SOLID, easy to install, great factory support, free shipping, and most important: under a $1000! Good luck in your decision.

	Thanks for all the opinions, pretty equal votes for both though. Like 82tique said, enjoying the boat will win out over keeping it 100% original (I've already redone a custom back seat). Still not sure, but leaning twords the Monster tower

	HEEeeeyyy, I resemble that remark about 'ol timers'. I've had plenty of comments on my 88' and the fact that it looks so good. Non-Nauti's THINK its a 2001' cause its clean. Shoot I'm only 37, does that classify me as an Ol Timer. HaHA.

	Sorry to all for calling 'classic' guys 'old timers'. Wasn't meant to offend anyone. My boat doesn't look classic, but it sure does perform like a classic thanks to all the great advice and information that I have gathered from reading info on this website. Thanks to everyone for helping me out. How much longer 'til spring?

	When looking aroud for a used boat I shyed away from the older mastercrafts with an aftermarket tower do to the lack a reinforcment in the deck. Does this apply to the Nautique or is the sufficient structure underneath to install a tower and not have to worry about stress cracking in th e=deck from the pull. In addition if storage is the big factor I have seen many tiques in the lake with some sort of storage system above the bimini, with the princible of a car rack. Just something to consider.
