I bought an 84' sn 2001 last April. I developed an exhaust leak in one of the hoses and recently replaced both sides, I am sure they were the originals as they had the original carpet wrapped around them. I also took both risers off to replace the gaskets. The manifolds are both really rusty and several of the bolt heads are in bad shape, they would be inpossible to take off with out grinding them. I dont know of any leaks in the manifolds....yet. Should I just replace everything now? or wait. I am sure the manifolds are also original. My boat has over 1000 hrs. on it. How big of a job is this going to be to get them off? thanks!!

The risers are where you could have bolts break off. You shouldn't have any trouble taking them apart from the heads. If the heads of the bolts are in bad shape, Craftsman and Irvin make a set of tool-like sockets with a spiral cut which will take off the worst rounded off bolts.

Just replace the manifolds and have the risers diped at the local machine shop, repaint them and they will be fine. Call j.a.chamberlain and get the PCM exhaust manifolds for around 150 each.
