Being the proud new owner of a 2003 SN with a PCM Excalibur 330 engine I'm investigating on converting her to LPG.

If i understand correctly this engine as a Multipoint fuel injection (is this correct?) what makes it somewhat complicated converting to LPG compared to a single point injection.

Secondly who managed to convert one of these engines and what installation was used to do so?

Any info would be appreciated.
Happy owner of a 196 :-)

Wow, LPG for a boat? I guess it could be done. Do you have LPG on your auto?

Yes, the excalibur is multiport fuel injection.

It bet can be done though, as I have seen a good many multiport FI auto's converted to LPG.

Boris, fellow Belgian, welcome to the greatest site on CC's!
Where in Belgium are you located?
I know a few guys here in Belgium that can convert your engine to LPG, as most ski boats on our lake here in Maaseik run on LPG or LPI, even the newer ones.
Just send me a mail (kristof.erens@skynet.be) or give me a call (0476/25.94.77). Oh and don't worry, I speak our three official languages LOL

Lots of knowledge here and great helpful guys. One thing you have to know: we all love pictures here . So post some!

This is a conversion without LPG injection and is not the best option for this engine type. It will work, but having an LPI setup will give you better fuel consumption and some power improvements.

This is what an LPI conversion looks like:

Reading this made me think about using a fuel cell for a boat. We're close to having viable "hydrogen on demand" systems that use electrolysis to get hydrogen from water. A fuel cell system on board a boat, with a battery bank, electric motor, and hydrogen storage could be a self-contained fuel system that never needs refueling.

You could use the water for cooling (right now fuel cell systems use a radiator and coolant just like a car), and the water as the fuel source.

The byproducts of this is water and heat, which could be returned to the lake.

I spent 5 years working for fuel cell company Plug Power. Their newer systems are for powering forklifts and the size of the fuel cell and batteries could easily fit in an inboard boat.
