Gas "con-panies"....Last Monday morning gas was 3.69. In the afternoon it went back up to 3.89. Today it is 4.23....all this while oil is hoovering around 100 bucks a barrell.
I know,I know,.... the refineries are probably going to have a time keeping up in the immediate future after Ike. Just seems to me the are a little trigger-happy? Opportunists??..... |

Steve,
We've got one station here in KC holding at 3.49; it was at 3.39 before Ike. All the other stations are now 3.59 and up. So, I guess we're fortunate here in this area. We used to have a refinery in KC but it was closed; I've often wondered why they keep all those refineries in hurricane ally, I guess they are closer to the imported crude. 4.23? I hope I don't wake up to that in the morning. I've ridden my motorcycle 6,000 commuting miles since March, I figure at 3.60 to 4.00 per gallon I save around 12 cents a mile, but don't press me on that, my education was not very math savvy. I read a report that gas sales were down 17% this summer because of high prices and people were cutting back on driving. I guess the refineries cut back 17% too.

the Gov changed some laws on importing cars that take different fuels, I think it means alot more diesl powered cars which will see 40 to 50 mpg.

Here it's $4.39 up from $3.95 Is it just me that notices how fast gas goes up when the oil price per barrel rises and how slow the gas price goes down when oil drops. I know it's not all based on oil prices. It must just be my imagination! |

Good ole RACEWAY kept their price at $3.69 the traffic was murder, And they only had 2 pumps open.By 5:00 pm it went to $5.39!!! Then around 8:00 pm IT HIT $5.99!!!! I waited till Saturday morning to fill the ole 66 Skylark up at the HESS Station for $3.85. Those CRAZY People. What a day!

I drove from Raleigh, NC to Charlotte, NC today to pick up the wife. About 112 miles each way,
I saw regular fuel from $4.29 to $3.63 per gallon. I think it is a case of the stations not knowing how much they can charge in this after ike invironment. The news here has said very little about the refineries. Are any back online ?? It makes no sense here in NC. They told us that the majority of our fuel comes from New Orleans pipelines. That is why we had no fuel after KaTrina and prices skyrocketed. Now we have no fuel after Ike.... Makes no sense that we pay either way. They change the story to meet the situation at hand. And I am not to think that they are crooks. |

The Colonial pipe line is shut down. It goes from Texas to Spartenburg, and Selma I think. It was only shut down for two days after Katrina.

The state government in Florida came up with a price gouging law a couple of years back. They figured enough is enough when a home improvement warehouse down south somewhere decided to start charging a hundred bucks for a sheet of plywood. The government finally did something right! They have also set up a 1-800 hotline to report price gouging, so most of the gas stations are pretty careful when they start jacking up the prices. Overall around here it looks like we had a 20 cent per gal overnight increase. I can live with it.
