Besides being cans of piss... pretty sure Gekko just got bought out. Moomba has come up in quality, they also use PCM engines.

How are Mercruiser (on Gekko) marinize straight inboard engines? Never saw one before. Gekko is new to me. Maybe I am out of the loop. I have seen Moomba alot. |

I've posted this before:
"Gekko is a low cost ski boat. Been around for at least 10 years now. Was manufactured in North Dakota of all places. Last year was bought by Challenger and moved production to Missouri. The Gekko actually gets really high reviews for slalom wakes. Mediocre for wakeboarding. If I recall correctly, one year Waterski Magazine rated the Gekko above the Correct Craft, causing CC to pull out of the Magazine's reviews for a couple of years, and to start a campaign to "test for yourself and decide." Moomba is made by Skier's Choice, the same company that produces Supra. Hulls are identical. Moombas get lower cost components, upholstery, etc. and offered as a price point boat. Supras get more expensive components and are offered as their high end boats. BKH |

I've looked at Gekkos at the boat shows. They are a low cost boat, you can't really compare them to CC, Malibu, MC or Supra. I thought their interiors were really cheap looking. Their basic CB seems like a lot of boat for the money, ($20K), but I didn't think the $30k boats looked like much value to me. According to WSM, the smaller one is a rocket. Personally, I'd go used CC for the same money.

I thought the Moombas went with indmar and ZF transmissions, i just did one, the rudder was on the outside of the boat bolted to the transom, it was the smaller boat and did lack in quality

Eric, that must have been a Boomerang, which I don't think they make anymore. The rest of the Moombas I've seen have a normal rudder. The Boomerang was the first Moomba they were selling around here when they were still an Australian company. They had an incredible low price.

It was in the early 90's and I think they were originally $10k with a trailer. Long time ago, my memory may be cloudy, but they were way less than anyone else out there. But, they were way more basic than what anyone else was offering also.

They caught my eye at the time. I sort of liked them. I like super sleek lines in boats and the price was attractive. |

Larry, I like sleek lines and small basic boats also, but I showed one to my wife and to my brother in law whom I was going to be partners in a boat with, and they both thought it was a POS and wanted to know what was wrong with me.

I think the Tantrums came out at $15k. A couple years later they put a new deck on it and gave it a nicer interior and called it the Sportster.I think it was $18k in 1999.
Correct Craft didn't seem to go after that market with a stripped basic boat. |

Buddy of mine has a Tantrum. Pretty stark, but it pulls fine. I've always admired the original flightcrafts. There are two of them around here. Was there more than one version of those. Ive seen them where the motor box runs right into the back seat so that there is only seating on either side, plus, I believe it was the same one that had the transom mounted rudder. Then they seemed to have regular rudders and back seats.

that was identical to the one I just repaired. the gunnels on the inside made it almost to your knees and my first thoughts if you were handing someone a ski you may go over with it

Other than outboards, I never saw a Flightcraft. The rudder on the transome, I believe is an Australian design. The Tantrum/Sportster were based on Flightcraft hulls.
