Well with Billy, Alan, Pete, and others picking up great new wooden boat projects I figured I better go out and get on the bandwagon...
Of course this is a long way from a CorrectCraft, but it is a classic. Its a Red Cedar Strip Michigan Model 3x27 Proboat that was designed and hand built by the late great Gene Jensen. Currently filthy, needs one small glass patch on the bottom, a bottom job/wetsand, a slider in the back, a bow cover, center cover (and remove the non original center thwart) and then we will try to race it this summer. Not the fastest boat we ever had but two guys that weigh in at over 200 each cant complain too much about a 39lb canoe. |

All right Joe!! Next step is a wood CC!! (no repower though - it's got to be original!!)
When all your repair is done on the Michigan, Make sure you get at least 3 coats of marine spar on it. I happen to like Pettit/Z Spar Flagship because I feel it goes on the easiest but it also has the highest content of UV filtering. You don't want the epoxy going white on you!! Then keep it out of direct sunlight as much as possible. |

Beautiful canoe ya got there Joe. Do you have plans to replace the aluminum supports (thwarts) with wood? It sure would beautify an already gorgeous "ride".

it really is an admiration for you Pete, but I was watching Hank last night, he was sorting out a pile of screws and measuring each one to put them in the proper drawer, im completely opposite....throw them in a 5 gallon bucket and take an hour to find what you need

Keep it original Pete endorsing modifications to the original boat.. blasphemy... Gene built this thing to race. Anyway in use they will be covered by the spray covers that need to be added. |

Joe, Thanks for straightening me out. I sure fell of the wagon on this one. Must be the wood boat in me. Seeing the aluminum angle and tubing must have blinded my thoughts - temporary insanity!!! |
