Excel steering and handling questions

After some searching here and at PN, I need to know if I have an issue. CC uses an odd size cable, and the boats don't handle very well with the standard size cable because it doesn't have the right throw. When we picked up our Excel, the dealer (not a CC dealer) said that they had put a new steering cable and a helm in the boat. I know that Excel's were not the best handling CC's to begin with, but I drove a friends 06 Xstar for a couple of days and in the past I though it was a pig, but this time it handled better than my Excel. How do I go about checking to see what steering set up I have, without pulling it out to measure it?

On a related handling note, does anyone know, or have experience with adding a 2nd tracking fin to an Excel? I've read about people thinking about it on PN, and have also heard rumors that there are people who have done it, but cannot find anything from someone who has actual experience with this.    I'm trying to start planning my winter mods, and have to do some gelcoat work on the keel so I figured this might fit right in.

Are there any sort of markings on the cable, or rack?

It pulls straight, and that was the thing I was worried about most. I made sure when I set the tower that the tow point was behind the fin. The wider turn arounds are a no big deal because we can't seem to stick the bow even when we try. It's the docking that sucks, I can't make those tiny pivots so I have to commit or turn around 20 feet out, and we almost always have a crosswind at the dock or my boat ramp.

The fins won't be a problem to instal, but I'm curious about how it effects the handling. I just don't want to cause a different problem in the process of fixing another.

Prop torque could be one small factor, but I would not think it would be that noticeable.   Possible wrong throw on the steering cable would be a better guess.
