among a few other issues I've been working I now have no reading/response from the water temp gauge, I tested the ohms from the gauge to the sending unit and it shows positive so I don't think it's the wiring. Could it be a bad sending unit or the temp gauge itself? I really don't want to run the boat until this is figured out. Any suggestions or past experiences guys?

Welcome Tim. It could be either one.Make sure you have power to the gauge. If you don't then start there. If you have power, disconnect the wire to the sender and ground it.If the gauge is good it should peg the needle, and you need to change the sender. If it doesn't, the gauge is bad or the wire to the gauge is bad,but you already checked that. Some gauge manufactors don't want you using teflon tape or sealer when installing the sender because it messes up the grounding of the sensor. Give this a try and get back if you need any help, but be warned most are headed to the Green Lake reunion this week where most will be boating, skiing and drinking (not necessarily in that order ) and answers will be slow-

thanks for the quick reply, I was planning on buying a new sending unit tomorrow but maybe I just check the ground first on the sender. If that don't work then I'll order a new gauge next. I let you know how it turns out, thanks again.

Tim check the gauge also. Disconnect the wire that is on the sender, give the gauge power and ground the wire you just disconnected from the sender. If the gauge and wiring are good you should get a reading on the gauge.
