OK wanted to see if there were any A/C experts in here that could help me troubleshoot my A/C problem in my truck. I have a 1994 Silverado with 5.7L 350 V8 in it. When I turn the A/C on it clicks but there is no movement from the clutch on the front of the compressor. Shouldn't the clutch engage once the pressure relay clicks? Is there a way to tell if I need just a clutch or if I need the whole compressor? I jumpered the pressure switch just to make sure that wasn't my problem and still the clutch did not engage. Any help you guys could give would be great.

check to make sure you have power on the green wire at the ac compressor and a ground on the black wire, back probe with a test light,if you have power and ground check clutch gap with a feeler gauge,it should be around .025.if all this is ok,you need a new clutch.

Well I went ahead and fixed it the old fashion way, traded it in and got a new truck. Thanks for the help though!

That was the option I was gonna suggest... |

- Gun control means: using BOTH hands!
- Money doesn't make one happy, but when it rains cats and dogs, it's still better to cry in a Porsche than on a bicycle... |

for future reference, there is a low pressure switch in line that controls the clutch, if the charge is low it wont kick on...what kind of truck did you purchase?

I had pulled the connector off and placed a paper clip between the leads which should have bypassed the pressure switch and it still didn't work.
As far as the new truck, well I bought an 08 Ford Explorer Sport Trac with a V8 and 4x4. I really wanted an F-150 but just couldn't afford it. It says the tow capacity is 7000lbs so I should be alright pulling the boat. Very nice truck though. |

Do you have a manifold to look at the high and low pressures of the AC system?
The clutch will not engauge when the pressure is low. You should check to see if there is power getting to the clutch as well as check the ground. Have you tried swaping out the relays to see if you just have a bad one. |
