We have a piece of the original Wright flyer fabric framed on the wall at our house along with a few other goodies! My wifes great uncle was a nephew of the Wright brothers (whatever that translates to). They had a ton of the Wright brothers stuff at their house. Most went to museums when they passed.

Greg-
Thats pretty cool. Here is a picture just after mine were taken when it flew. Everything (except the fabric) is an exact replica of the original. Even the engine. The fabric is a more modern covering, the original irish linnen is very expensive and tough to get these days. |

Interesting that they built it with counter rotating props! Of course the means they used to do it won't be my first choice flying in a airplane!!

That Flyer must be a wild ride! A little out my league though. So is the 'copter, but I'd like to learn some day.
Greg, someday I want to drop by and see that. There's been a pilot or 2 around here as well. "Now that we can talk without shouting captain, did you say feather 3?" |

To make matters worse flying that Wright flyer is completely un-natural, everything is backwards and counter-intuitive (at least by todays flight controls). I flew a simulator up in Oshkosh, WI a few years ago. I echo the helmet comment.
Whats with all you rotor-heads don't you know if one little cotter pin falls out that whole things is going to come apart... Just kiddin, I fly a 172 and would love to get a ride in either of those whirly birds. You Medevac guys are heros every day, some of the places you have to go are crazy dangerous. Stay safe and watch those power lines! God Speed! |

I don't think it is the same one. The article said the one that crashed was made mostly of wood & fabric. I don't see any wood on the one Tim posted.
