Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knew the proper distance between the hull and the prop.My 1976 mustang has about 1/8". It just seems a little close. Thanks

Hal,

Too close, no room for any error. Acme says 10% of the prop diameter. Look at the prop web sites, I think acme says they can shave a bit off and reshape. That is if you have a good prop that is worth spending any money on, otherwise replace with a better size. Call Acme and give them details like Max rpm, speed, horse power hull style ate and they will sixe it right.

It really needs to be an inch. That is what acme recomends. To little room will cause hull damage. The water will actualy start eating away your hull.

Thanks for the info. I'm wondering if the shaft is pushed to far into the coupling. Is there any room for adjustment there?

The further up the prop the more the hull will lift. The reason for clearance is not to hit the bottom if the boat flexes.
Moving the prop either back or forward has definite bearing on the attitude of the hull. However the further back lowers the nose and too far back causes vibration. Depending on the rake of the prop and cup, diameter, all are a factor.

Well after a little research I have discovered that my boat has the wrong prop. It should have a 12X14 not a 13X13. Thanks for the input.
