I had a chance to stop by the Harley Davidson Museum in Milwaukee yesterday. Very cool place. I never knew that Harley made boats for a time. In 1963, they bought a company in Tomahawk, WI called Tomahawk Boat Co. Harley bought the business to gain access to the fiberglass manufacturing process for motorcycle saddlebags, and other components.
I thought they stopped making boats when Harley bought them to start making fiberglass parts for the bikes. But, apparently they put out some boats with the Harley name on them as well. That plant is still up there today, only now it is a state of the art injection molding facility where they still make the saddlebags, tour packs, etc. Here are a couple of pictures of the boat in the museum. If you ever get a chance to go through the museum, its well worth it. |
