Hello CCFans:
Couple of questions: 1) I've never had to replace a cable on a Ski Nautique before. So the question is, what length and type of cable do I need for a 1975 SN w/ Velvet Drive? (Good place to get 'em without breaking my tiny piggy bank?) 2) Other than where the exhausts penetrate the transom, is there wood in the transom of a '75 SN? If so, where is it? Thanks in advance. --Shawn |

Shawn, I can say that your Stringers, both Primary and Secondary, are wood and they go all the way to the transom. Mine were glassed right to the transom. Also there is a wood block for the lifting ring. |

Anywhere you see a raised area on the glass there is wood underneath. Rudder port, bilge pump, lift ring, and as you mentioned the exhaust ports. If you have a swim platform there should be wood reinforcements under the glass as well. Platforms did not come out of the factory until 1978 so you could have one with no reinforcements. What is going on there with the transom?
The cable should not be too bad. The guys will chime in shortly with suggestions. |

Thanks guys. I asked about the transom because when I do the stringers, I'd like to check all of the hull wood. Probably not going to worry about wood in the top cap. So when I have everything apart, I should add some reinforcement for the swim platform mounts?
I asked about the cable b/c mine needs replacement, and I'm going out to the lake this weekend. Might as well bring one out and take care of it while I'm thinking about it . . . I just need to know what length to buy. |

If you are going to do a full blown stringer job you will want to replace every piece of wood in there. Read threads on here, post pictures of your problem areas and read some more. I am Just getting started with a stringer job on my 1973 Skier. The platform mounts should be reinforced if they are not. Mine are not and it caused spider cracks. Also below is a picture of my transom with a proposed put back shadowed in black. You can see where the stringers meet the transom, the rudder port and lift ring mount. Your Nautique is bigger and will have a slightly different layout but this should give you an idea of the naked transom. |

That post in your thread is what prompted my transom question. ; )
So, anyone know the length of the tranny cable on a '75 SN? |
