I've never been able to get my alignment just right. There's always a gap at the bottom. Seems like if I move the front of the engine down it will fit perfectly. But my mounts do not allow for front vertical adjustments. I only have the wooden wedges in the back.

If I move the back up it's too high and the shaft will bind.

Whats a guy to do?

Grind some height off the stringers at the front mounts?

Adjust the wedges? isn't that what they are for?

The wedges are only in the back and adjusting them does not seem to help. You'd think I should raise them a bit so that the bottom of the coupling would move us to get the correct angle but then the top of the coupling is too high.

Again, the front has no vertical movement so I'm kind of stuck. I'll probably try to go with some adjustable engine mounts when I redo the stringers but for now it would be nice to get the alignment a little closer.

David,
Loosen the front mounts at the trunion. Flip the angles and rods 180 and make wood wedges to go under them. Get longer lag bolts.

Are you sure your strut to log is good?

That's a pretty good idea. Just might do it.

Not exactly sure what you would consider good but I think it is. Everything looks straight. It turns freely when disconnected from the coupling and in position. The shaft appears to be straight, the gap stays in the same place when I turn it.

Here are a couple of pics I took last year of the underside.

Sorry, did not read clearly about the wedges only in the back.

It seems like those fronts should be the other way around and have wedges, like Pete stated.

Nice shiny pylon!!
