I noticed their are alot of Central NC folks here.
Last weekend I took a trip to the Uwharrie Nationl Forset to enjoy my other hobby 4-wd Suzuki / Jeep adventure. I it always a good time but some how it just wasn't as sweet having to step out of the boat project for 5 days. My wife and daughter bailed out last minuite due to camping in the expected 90deg. + heat. I was able to pick up my 15-yr old 1/2 bro from Greensboro and carry him along for the weekend 4wd / Zuwharrie camping event. While we had great fun I could not help but think of all the lake ~ Skiing oportunities around us. My dad who used to ski tournamnets is now 65 and just had an artificial hip put in last month. If anyone is gonna give my little bro an apreication for the water it has gotta be me. What are a few of the nicer Ski lakes around Greensboro? I am just below Richmond Va. but think I might like to try and get my Dad and little bro out on the water some time soon. I've got frineds on Gaston at River Ridge and my boat came with a River Ridge comunity decal so we will probally try to get down that way too. |

Well, come on down to Oak Hollow Lake--right down Hwy.68, here in High Point. It's a small lake but usually is like glass most of the time. Come down alone first and we'll ski behind the 'Purple Rain' 93 SN, or the 66 Skylark if ya not to big!

Marty ~ WoW!!! Thanks for the invitation. I'd love to get down their this summer and see those beautiful Correct Crafs. That Skylark is especially interesting not too many of those around. Skiing would be great too ~ I think I've only had the chance to ski 5x in the last 10 yrs. I'm itching to get out again but I'm spending every free hr working to finish my boat up. If I can arrange another trip to Greensboro I'll give you a call.
I'm the guy driving in the 1st pic top of the page (6' 195#) All of my skiiing thus far (Slalom and Trick) was done behind my old 1973 Glasstron V-182 (with an 85hp 4-cyl johnson) or a friends 16' Cajun Bass boat. I recently cleaned up the Glasstron / refloored and sold it for $1200 last year to get my ski boat. |

Thanks ~ right stylish for 3o+ yrs old.
The only functional issue were that it was a little underpowred for slalom starts and climbing in over the high transom with no step or rail was feat best accomplished by young adgile individuals. The weird shaped concave transome kept us from ever finding a good platform entry solution. |

You shouldn't put jeep in the same sentence with Suzuki, those Zuwharrie guys will get you. Did you know Art Lilley? I haven't been up there in a couple of years. We used to go every Thanksgiving weekend 4wheelin'. My brother sold his samurai for $7,500 on ebay several months ago.

Waterdog ~ Sounds like a good time. I'd rather hit Gaston but Wifey has a July 4th week lined up at NagsHead... I'm not complaining but I'm itching to get back skiing. Once I can get my boat sea worthy we might have to catch up.
Tim, Thanks, I am a moderator over on Zuwharrie for the Geo Tracker / Suzuki Side Kick section. I was afraid if I just said Suzuki the average guy might think Motorcycle. I've been building and 4-wheeling Samurai and Sidekick vehicles since 95. Sounds like your brother did all right selling his Samurai. I can't help but think if I sold a few of my Samurais I could have a very nice boat. Pic I took of Art from out Tellico 2006 Trip Yes Art and I were close ~ man do I miss him. For those that don't know Art Lilley was one of our Special Forces guys from Ft. Bragg who gave his life protecting our freedom. Yesterday marked 3 years since his passing. Not a day goes by that I don't think about Art or his family. We went on 4-wheeling trips together, frequently traded parts and helped each outher make repairs. I bought Arts wifes 2002 Suzuki Grand Vitara XL-7 (bad engine) right before he shipped out to Afghanistan in 2006. He put his wife in a new mini van so she would not have to worry about car troubles while he was gone. I just put an engine in it for my wife this past March (back burner project). So she now drives Arts wifes car known as Her-Zuki everyday. 2002 XL-7 after engine install and detail ~ |

Hey Michael...We spend our time on Lake Tillery which backs up Badin Lake. When you get down we would be glad to drag you around either lake. Both Tillery and Badin are similiar in size but very different shapes and depths. I lived in the town of Badin for awhile but grew up on the Montgomery side of Lake Tillery in the foothills of the Uwharrie Mountains near the reservation.
