Hey anyone out there help me out ther is no lip in the intake manifold or the thermostat housing and engine did not have one either 1989 2001 351w does it take one or not?

well temp climbs at Idle and goes to 160 180 then comes down like it had a t-stat in it but also found water strainer leaking rwp looks good
cleaned all connections and and I am use to a small block chevy with a recess lip for the t-stat to sit in these are both flush and no recess thanks for the reply |

one side or the other has to have one otherwise it just leaks and will crack the housing if it didn't when you tighten it. Clean the gasket out of the recess cavity in the lower section of the horizontal area where the t-stat rest. The vertical section of the goose neck that attaches to the intake isn't were you find the t-stat. notice the recess in the housing? |

well I got a new one in it now and the housing back on waiting on the starter to get rebuilt and put it back on should be good to go
I am from amsterdam ohio big booming metropolis no street lights thanks for all the help everyone little gas engines just dont do much for me I guess I worked on heavy trucks too long maybe the diesel smoke got to me |

ha red light district we have one stop sign and 17 cops.sorry so long reply out skiing still have heating issues thats boating just break out another thousand I would have it no other way
