I lost my prop on 5 meters of water today so I'll need to get a new one.
I have a 76 mustang 17 with a 351.
I think it was a nibral 4 blade 15x18 that was modifyed to 15x16
I't was a bit slow out of the hole but dit 50+mph.
I would like to get more holeshot speed cause i'm not using the topend speed...
I'm located i denmark so i will have to import one.

By the way i't sucks when u are towed in by a bayliner at 14:00 when there is a carnival i the harbor

Ouch! I have read about shaft taper problems leading to props spining off. someone will come a long that knows what they are talking about and explain. Just dont want to see you loose another one( or get towed by another bayliner!)
For thousands of years men have felt the irresistible urge to go to sea, and many of them died. Things got better after they invented boats.

Were you using a castle nut with a cotter pin to keep the old prop on? I have heard of people having props come off with those.

I have been using a nylock nut on mine the past few years with no issues at all. I would highly recommend checking this out when you get your new prop.

The problem with those is your only really supposed to use them once.If your losing a castilated one with a cotter key something is wrong.Look up Pete's how to on how to lap a prop to the shaft.

15x18?   15x16?

Are you absolutely sure?

Think your 5 might be a 2.

That is a mighty big prop.

As far as the nut, castellated nuts work fine, but verify the nut and pin are fine. Nyloc's can be used, but they are really only designed to be used 1 time. After that, it can spin off.

Thank's for the quick replys...

So I looked up the nautique dealer in denmark today and he saved my week he had a 13x13 oj in stok so i'll be runing that in the weekend if the weather acts nice

I'm dead sure on the the numbers on the old prop but I dont know if they match the pro after it has been modifyed. I never had it over 4100 rmp and still did 50 mph but it was slow out of the hole. A friend of mine has a bailiner 175 with 140 hp inbord engine and he had no problem keping up with me out of the hole

I hope my new prop will put and end to that...

propably should us the tow ring on the front of the keel instead of the lifting ring on the bow.

Hey at least the bayliner had a gal to look at while being towed!

Jonas,
Yes, next time don't let a Bayliner owner tow you from the lifting eye!! Hopefully no damage was done except to you'r pride. (A cc being pulled by a Bayliner!! )

I suggest you take a look at this thread and read it.
proper prop installation The nut whether it's a Nylock or castellated, is there only to set the prop on it's taper and then as a safety from prop loss. I mention in the linked thread that the nut is not there to keep the prop on and I've seen boats come in with the nut gone but the props still there. The bottom line is the prop you lost was NOT put on properly!!!

Make sure its a RH prop else you'll still be loosing races.

BTW where does your engine box get its ventalation now?

Typically installing them 5 times is the limit. Better check your data.

So I had it out today and it's like a new boat. The acceleration is off the charts it will hit 5000 rpm in no time so i have to be careful with the throttle... not sure on the the top speed but i will get the gps in next week. By the way I kicked the h... out of a jet ski today so i am looking forward to getting out with the gayliners next week...
