The '70 Barracuda that I have been working on for 2 years now needs a windshield... I couldn't be more dissapointed. To make a long story short, I guess one of the brackets rattled loose after re-assembly after the hull restoration while we had the boat out for the first time this year. We hit an average sized wake, and the driver's half of the windshield shattered. Filled my boat and my leg with glass... 15 stiches later, I'm left with a good looking old boat with no windshield... GRRRRR. Any help would be appreciated.

Who had that link to the outfit making the plexi replacements for the deluxe glass split windshields?
Korey, Confirm this is the curved glass split windshield and not the flat glass. We've seen some real late Cudas from the factory with the flat glass. |

Someone linked it thelast time it came up. I'd like to know how it was put together that caused this to happen, so I don;tmake the same mistake. 15 stitches, ouch!

Very sorry for the slow reply, I thought I had notifications turned on, and have been a little too busy to check the forum as much as I would like. I'll have to check into that...
Anyway, it is curved glass. Sorry that I left that out. The curved glass really makes the boat for me... I would be very open to a plexi/lexan replacment, but would prefer the real deal! The only photo of the boat back togeather (before the windshield disaster) sandwiched between my older cousin's 454 powered Wellcraft, and my younger cousin's '74 Mark Twain (with Merc' Tower of Power): |

Oh, Riley, as for my error in assembly... I still really don't know... Honestly I spent a good deal of time making sure that it was mounted very well - better than before I disassembled it. I used #10-32 (maybe it was 3/16) oval head machine screws at the center support and two aluminum "clamps" on either side that pass through the deck and are (where) fastened with nylon locking nuts with an appropriately large washer at each spot. The tab on end of the windshield frame and the brackets that cover them had #8 or #10 (whichever was appropriate, I'm not in front of it now) by ~1" screws directly into the deck. The best I can tell, this is exactly how they did it back in '69...

Korey, this is the site where the glass (actually plastic) came from on our Classic.
