I see listings for 143 and 160 degree thermostats. Which is preferrable (several comments seem to favor 143) and why?

Its not so much a preference thing- the correct thermostat depends on the type of motor you have. In regards to PCM Fords (which are most common) the carb'd boats use the 143 and the EFI boats use the 160. What do you have in your boat?

Interesting...the guys at SKIDIM suggest a 160 t-stat if I run in fresh water only (which I do).

Oh no!!!! Another MC owner!!

I don't know why but it's not fuel atomization related. Maybe one of the other guys more familiar with the temp difference can comment.

MC or SS, same thing!! Really, glad you're here asking for some advice no matter what kind of boat it is.

Fill in you're profile with at least your first name. Most her use them instead of screen names.

Thanks for the welcome!

I'm headed for Lake Shasta this weekend for our annual week of houseboating, skiing and wakeboarding. Best trip we take every year.
