Can anyone give me dimensions for stringers in a 2nd generation ski nautique? Uncle has a sawmill guy showing up and I can get some made if I have the numbers. Thanks Brian

What dimensions are you looking for? I think you will need two 2 x 8 x 14's (mains)and two 1 x 8 x 14's (secondaries). The 7 1/4 will be very close, If you are having them cut, you may want them taller to give you more leeway to do final scribing, start with them tall, scribe them. in then rip them to height.

My stringers were 7-1/2 at the highest point but CC had a lot of build up on the top too get them to height.
I wanted to avoid the unnecessary build up so I went with 2x10s. If your cutting your own it wouldn't hurt to go a full 1" on the secondaries. Remember to allow for shrinkage as they dry. |

The normal for kiln dried construction is around 13%. If this "sawmill guy" is any good he will have a moisture meter and will be able to check the % on the lumber he's suppling. I like to see it around 8% before you use it for stringers. |

Scott (sbranum) used true 2x's and almost ran into a problem with the widths of the exhaust channels and main bilge area. Just make sure you take into account the extra width if you do that. There is more room on the SN so it wont be a problem just make sure you have the clearance you need for the exhaust and engine. |

I went with 2X10 as well. I think I got a much better fit than the factory. Also, didn't have to scab a piece on for the gas tank mount. Mines an 82, so I guess that's third generation SN. BKH

Keegan, I would like to blame the problem I encountered on my primaries being a full 2" but honestly it was more of me not taking my time to measure every dimension more carefully before removing the engine and the old primaries. In my next life when I do another stringer job, it will be like Keegan's or Okie boarders

I havent been to Conneaut in a couple years. Its a little to busy for me. I boat mostly at Tionesta ince its only 15 miles away. Ill have to check out the real estate there. Thanks
