How does the Edelbrock endurashine intake hold up in the marine environment?
I hate when you lift the hood on an inboard and it looks like a battery exploded or someone hosed it down with salt water. Ugly My uncoated / unpolished brand new Cadillac 500 intake 120 days later. New Painted I know keeping the bilge dry while in storage is key.. But wondering how well these polished finish coatings have held up for others. Is the polished mirrored bling worth the extra $100 ??? |

Hmmm...
With the Ford big block exhaust manifold adapters and some custom motor mounts I could drop the built Caddy 500 in the hole ~ set up standard rotation. Naaah ~ |

strange..I have an edelbrock with the standard finish..painted of course to match the rest of the engine...looks good after one year....
this was taken a month ago after the ign upgrade..and as you can see no signs of rust..this a fresh water boat...engine was rebuilt last year I used nitro lacquer used for cars to paint it..not sure wat is the similar product over there..but is holding fine... |

I have given up on any sort of polished or raw aluminum exposed in the engine compartment.... just cant keep it clean as noted above.. it was hard painting over new expensive and pretty aluminum heads but it looks better than the alternative. Back to the question, I have seen the endurashine stuff on some performance boats.. a few with a couple years old installations and seems to be holding up great so far.. however I had the feeling that anything on these particular boats would have looked good.. I say if you like shiny give it a shot.. its only money.

Thanks for the replys - I've seen a few of those SHOW boats at the beach. I plan to build more for go but want to be proud to lift the hood and show it off too.
I regret not doing endurashine on the Caddy engine, but I think the boat needs paint. A friends identical boat only got out 2x this year ~ garage kept, climate control, no scratches low hrs. I like clean but mine got out 2x last week. My aim is to re-build for durability and aim to wear it out ~ useed as a term of endearment. |

I thought endurashine was powder coat paint? If it's not there are powder coats just as good looking.

I painted my new performer before I put it on the boat. It looks great, just like Kapla's. The 4 dollars the high temp engine paint cost is well worth it. I don't know if the 100 dollars for endurashine would be worth it to me. It certainly wasn't when I bought the intake.

while we are on the subject of finishes, i am doing a pair of 370 bbc's and sent the blocks and intakes to get baked, the intakes were GM performance intakes, they were painted black when i dropped them off.
When picking them up all the paint was burned off and in areas on the manifolds themselves, aluminum was melted off and underneath was brass, the aluminum must have been plated over the brass, it was about 1/32 nd thick, So the intakes must be all brass with aluminum plating, i would say high dollar intakes.....i never knew, anyone know of these intakes? |
