Ill be on spring break next week so the game plan is: get all the foam stripped out by friday, and order all the fiber gla$$ supplies this afternoon.

Hopefully all the $upplie$ should be in by friday... hopefully..... Then have the secondaries as well as the mains glassed in. Which I'm thinking that will be my full week of work tied up in those 4 pieces, then all that is left is the smaller stuff. Which ill be able to knock out the small stuff easy on the weekends and some week days.

Oh on other thing. I found out if the foam is all stripped out around the battery box there is a BOAT load of room to work in the bow!

Is there any bulk heads in the bow? So far all ive seen is foam foam foam and no bulk heads. Im guessing that with the floor made of fiberglass then filled with foam that was more than enough strength for the bow of the boat? If im wrong someone fill me in.

There is only the one bulkhead where the conduit comes through. The rest is just a mountain of foam.

Well i have majority of the foam ripped out of the bow finally... But i finally invested the blood into the project. While ripping foam out of the nose, i swung the pry end of the hammer and smacked the top of my knee. Thus bleeding into my tyvek suite.

Tomorrow i should have all the foam out and the sanding shall begin!

so far i beleave there is a curse when working on these boats, that deals with your vehicle tearing up or damaged..While Ranger is rebuilding his 86 SN his truck burnt up the turbos...In my case, someone backed into my honda S2000 and ran off while i was in the movie theater.

It's certainly funny how thing work out. Before I had the project, I had plenty of time. Now that I have parts all over my garage, we don't have any time at all.

I've decided to remove my deadline and just keep getting to it as much as I can. It will be done, soon enough.

Yours will be too.

my problem is i keep running into issues that require me to spend money on something else and none in the boat...i havent been able to order the fiber glass supplys but ive still got a lot of grinding left to do.

Past 2 days ive been washing fiber glass dust out of the boat. i went and bought a nylon fitting that screwed into the drain plug hole then taped threads into the nylon fitting to attach a brass fitting so i can attach a garden hose to it. Then ran the garden hose outside into a bucket with a towel on the top acting as a filter..so far it works but need to come up with a better filter idea.

so here is the list of stuff im gonna order tonight:

(brushes and rollers ill pick up at a local shop)
5 gallon us composite medium hardner $263
2 gallon us composite medium hardner $117
1 50yrd roll 2" e glass tape $16.25
1            4"               $26.95
1            8"               $58.00
1 roll 110yd 4" wide epoxy mat tape $24.95
2.5 qt milled fiber $16.25
15 yds 7.5oz cloth   $71.25

Ill pick up the biaxel later on i know ill need to order some more resin eventually.

it made sense to just order a roll of the epoxy mat tape, than to order a 20yard piece of 38" wide epoxy mat.

Can i get away with using the mat tape, rather than ordering the 1/4 chopped strand?

If you are gonna order tonight it might be too late, but I am not following your layup schedule. The standard layup is 2 layers each of cloth tape 2", 4", and 8" over the fillet followed by a layer of 12" biaxial over both fillets and one over the top. You will need at least 2 rolls of each tape to get all around the stringers and the floor to hull. To go from 4" to 5" is not going to give you much contact surface to the hull and stringer. Waste of time IMO. The purpose of going bigger with each layer is that it ensures you are bonding to the hull and stringer adding strength.

Not sure how mat would be a replacement for chopped strand. Just use cabosil as your filler. Makes nice fillets, and bedding.

A shop vac with hepa filter works great for cleaning up the dust. I vacuumed as I went.

ALso you are wasting your money not getting 10 gallons right off the bat. There is a significant discount when you order 10 gallons, and you are going to use it all. WHen you add in the shipping and everything else it makes a lot more sense to order everything all at once.

oops sorry i ment 8" not 5". Right now im doing 1 main and 1 secondary at a time. Due to my college budget im ordering what i can i know ill spend a little extra money in the long run but i can live with my self on that.

Right now knowing i dont have any fiber glass stuff ordered is causing me to drag ass on grinding out fiber glass to get it ready to bed down a stringer.

There is a lot of time and beer to drink before this thing is remotely done!

Which everything else like wood for lift ring in the bow, ski plate form, and around the mufflers im going to replace now. The wood for the stern lift ring and rudder will be replaced next winter when i restore the outside of the boat.

The mounting bracket for the ski pylon im going to replace with aluminum and bolt it from the side rather than thru bolt it. I reliaze that 90% of the stress is held in the hull but the nature of my self cant leave stuff as they was and gotta make it over engineered.

You are going to put it back together, paint the bilge and then next year cut the wood out of the rudder mount and lift ring???? You are going to have to pull the gas tank again, and make all that mess again? Does not make sense. Your talking about a few extra hours of work now verses disassembling it again after you have just put it back together. I suggest you do it now. There is no benefit to waiting.

your right, i have a lot more work to do so knowing me ill end up replacing it all as well. Which shop vacuuming all the fiber glass dust dosent get to far before i clog my filter. The best method ive found so far is sweep up the dust into a pan and put it in the trash and wash out the rest.

Second to what Keegan said. Plus, it's hardly and more money to do it now. Do your rough templates for the floor and you'll see where your scrap is gonna be from the two sheets of marine ply that you'll already need. There's more than enough left to cut out all those transom pieces. Then it's just a little extra resin and cloth.

Haven't been able to make the progress ive wanted to all at one time over this past year since i started my project, between school, work, and moving im finally getting around to finishing the boat.

Ive decided to go with no foam, and building two bulk heads, along with 3/4 marine grade plywood for the floors.  I would have gone with 1/2 ply but at $40 a sheet of 3/4 4'x8' i couldnt pass up the deal.

I beleave im going to put the battery in its stock location and put storage in between the bulk heads in the bow under the floor with a access pannel.
