I have an 87 Martinique. Ford 351. I plan on putting Mobile 1 5w20 fully synthetic oil in it. Does anybody see a problem with that?

Oh wow!!!!!! Yes, there is a problem!!!! It's far from what that flat tappet engine needs. You can do a search on site and read all about the importance of ZDDP.

I must ask, who told you to run the 5W20 synthetic?

Here is the difference between flat tapped and roller.. however i am a HUGE mobil 1 fan love there motor oil however rotella t is in my boat but if your stuck on mobil 1 theyoffer a number of oil products which are higher in phosphorus. Mobil 1 15W-50 (1,200 ppm), Mobil 1 0W-40 (1,000 ppm) and Mobil 1 High Mileage 5W-30, 10W-30 and 10W-40 (900 ppm).

last year I ran a mobil 1 10w40 synthetic. I just happened to have a 5w20 synthetic. Wasn't sure if it would make a big differnce or not. Probably stick with the 10w40.

Tim,

I opened that can of worms a few months back, you can search for "Oil reccomendations" under my username and see how heated this topic can get. Personally, I have always used Mobil 1 myself, in all my vehicles. But chose not to in the Nautique. After listening to these guys on there input, I used the Valvoline VR1 20w-50 Racing Oil. It is specific for the flat tappet cams and is highly reccomended by most on this site. Take a look at that post, these guys know there stuff!

running at 160 to 170 degree heat range your motor
never gets that hot. A straight weight is what most are
running since you never see 210 degrees. SAE-30,5w-30
and 10w-30 are all 30w at 210 degrees. But at 160-170
they are 5w 10w and 30w. Oil lubricates your engine,
not additives. ( insert girl friend joke here)
