hello everyone, well went to the lake today so my girls could do some wake boarding and as i was starting to give it some gas it keep wanting to bog down or chock down it would spit and sputter and then just cut off so as i keep trying to crank it back up it was like it was flooded so i ended up killing the battery ,so a paddling i went after about an hour or so of paddling we was able to flag someone down and they were good enough to tow us back i couldnt thank him enough. It was a little harder to crank today but once we got going it seemed ok so im guessing im in need of a card rebuild? whats a carb rebuild cost?I have never rebuilt one and im looking to have someone do it so i know its done right and this will eliminate my goof ups. any help r advice would be appreciated thanks   Jeff

Jeff....sorry to hear of your problems today. I just rebuilt my carb over the winter. I got the kit from Discount Inboard Marine. Make sure you give the correct carb id # from your carb whoever you buy a kit from. I think the kit was around $60-$70, but, it did include the secondary diaphram, etc. It was pretty easy to rebuild.

Just take your time and compare all parts to make sure you have all the new parts you need to replace the old parts. It always helps to take digital photos during any rebuild. You will need the pictures when you start re-assembling to make sure you know where things go.

It's more than likely a carb issue. Leaky power valves can flood a motor out, and those are made of thin rubber( or synthetic rubber) and can fail, but several other parts in a carb can wear out and make a boat run poorly or not at all. Carbs really are easy to fix, but you need to take your time and pay close attention.

I used to hate carbs, now I understand mine well enough that I don't hate them anymore.

Gary...I agree you can find them cheaper out there. I found one (genuine Holley) at AutoZone for a lot cheaper. However, Vince and the team at Skidim have always come through with good advice in a crunch. So, I felt like it made sense to buy from them.

Darn Jeff. My heart just sank when I saw your post. I did not have any issues with the carb like that last year. I hope it works out with a carb rebuild. Keep me posted. I certainly did not mean to put you in that situation on the lake.

john its not your fault the boat has been running great and im not 100% sure its in the carb it could have just gotten some trash in it are something simple i let it get a little low on fuel so maybe it got some condensation from the fuel tank or something, maybe a clogged fuel filter. we really love the boat and have been enjoying it as much as possible , but need to get it ready for white lake this weekend i have also posted a pic on "what is this" this also may have something to do with it , it only does it when im trying to ease in the throttle .again we would like to thank you for all your help and kindness.   Jeff

glad it seems to be running ok. That sucks. I was thinking fuel filter as I was reading the thread. With the ethanol fuel, you should always keep a new fuel filter handy and change every year. I know how you feel, a SN doesnt paddle well! At least you had some helpers.

A set of scuba flippers work great. Especially if you have kids with endless energy in the boat.   Just attach kids to the swim deck with flippers on and steer the boat with the paddle.....
